How FirstUp ranks your work

  • Value. Each item gets a value from 0 to 100 from four factors, each rated 1โ€“5: impact, urgency, risk if it's left undone, and who asked. The preset you pick sets how much each factor counts.
  • Urgency comes from the due date. Overdue or due today is 5, within 3 days 4, within a week 3, within two weeks 2, and anything later or undated 1. Rankings update on their own as dates get closer.
  • Effort. The value is adjusted for effort so quick, valuable items rise. The Quick wins preset leans on this the most, Deadline-driven the least.
  • Your call wins. Drag an item or use the arrows to move it and it's pinned to that spot. Blocked items, items waiting on another item and snoozed items step out of the plan until they're ready.
  • Fit to your hours. Items fill today in strict rank order; an item that doesn't fit in what's left of today is started today. This week then fills with the rest, in rank order. Low-value items with no near deadline are flagged to drop or delegate.
