How it's calculated
- Revenue at risk per business hour = annual revenue × dependency % ÷ revenue-generating hours per year
- Lost productivity per business hour = employees affected × loaded hourly cost × productivity lost %
- Business hours lost = the clock hours of the outage that fall inside your revenue-generating hours. The calculator assumes the outage starts at the beginning of a Monday workday, with your yearly hours spread over five workdays a week (for example, 72 clock hours = 24 business hours at 8 hours a day). With 24/7 every clock hour counts.
- Outage cost = (revenue at risk + lost productivity) per business hour × business hours lost + recovery costs
This is an estimate built only from your inputs. It doesn't include harder-to-measure costs like contract penalties, regulatory fines, customer churn, or reputational damage, so real costs are often higher. Some revenue may also be recovered after the outage ends.
